NETWORK DETAILS

Our servers are located inside The Planet datacenters which are considered amongst the best-connected hosting facilities in the world. The datacenters are implemented through a high-speed network specifically designed for specific hosting needs. The Planet's data centers have multiple network connections to different Internet backbones, allowing data to be distributed though many sources meaning that The Planet's network is not dependent upon any single Internet backbone.

The Planet internal network architecture utilizes the Enterprise routing and switching engines from Juniper and Cisco. The datacenters also utilize Juniper M20 routers as border routers, Cisco 6500 series switches in our distribution layer, Cisco 6500 and 5500 switches in our aggregation layers, and Cisco 3500 and 2900 series switches at the customer layer. The network is fully meshed and redundant with 6 backbone providers. Current network consists of, UUNet (GigE), Level 3 (GigE), Time Warner (GigE), Global Crossing (GigE), Verio (GigE), and ATT (DS3).

The datacenters offer complete redundancy in power, HVAC, fire suppression, network connectivity, and security. With over 35,000 sq ft of raised floor and 15,000 sq ft of static free tile. The facilities sit atop multiple power grids driven by TXU electric and have multiple Liebert, PowerWare UPS battery backup power and onsite permanent generator power. HVAC systems are a combination of glycol, chilled water, and condenser units by Liebert and Data Aire to provide redundancy in cooling coupled with 6 managed backbone providers. Twelve more third party backbone providers are available in the building via cross connect.
